Here are some important dates and deadlines to put on your calendar:
- Attend ACA’s Annual Convention & Expo: We’ll be in San Diego this month July 21-23 for our annual convention, so make your plans to attend! Group discounts are available. Learn more.
- Prepare for the New Overtime Rule: The new federal overtime rule takes effect July 1. While it faces challenges, employers should review the requirements for salary thresholds and identify employees who will be impacted. Starting July 1, most salaried workers who earn less than $844 per week will become eligible for overtime pay under the new rule. And on Jan. 1, 2025, most salaried workers who make less than $1,128 per week will become eligible for overtime pay. Learn more.
- Connecticut Medical Debt Law: Connecticut’s medical debt and credit reporting law prohibits health care providers and hospitals from reporting a patient’s medical debt to consumer reporting agencies for their credit report on and after July 1, 2024. It also voids any portion of such medical debt that is reported to the CRAs. Learn more.
- Oregon Privacy Law Takes Effect: The Oregon Consumer Privacy Act goes into effect July 1. It provides consumers in Oregon with rights to protect their personal information and outlines obligations for businesses that collect, use, store, disclose and analyze data as well as entities that process personal data on behalf of those businesses. - Texas Data Privacy Law Takes Effect: The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act applies to anyone conducting business in the state of Texas and to any products or services consumed by Texas residents. Most provisions take effect July 1. Learn more.
- Virginia Statute of Limitations Bill: Recent amendments updated the statute of limitations to be within three years of the due date on the final invoice for a health care service, not the first invoice. It takes effect on July 1. Learn more.
- South Dakota Collections Bill Takes Effect: South Dakota’s modified time limits related to collection efforts for debts owed to the state start July 1. The changes, in SB 65, specifically modify the definition of the “account receivable cycle.” Learn more.
- Florida Medical Collections Law: A new law in Florida impacts health care service pricing and collection of medical debts, including prohibitions on “extraordinary collection actions.” The Florida Collectors Association worked on the law and has an overview for ACA members licensed in Florida. It takes effect July 1. Learn more.
- Comment on Increased Licensing Fees: The Conference of State Bank Supervisors has issued a call for public comment on a proposal to increase processing fees for the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). This proposal, if approved after public comments, will result in the first fee adjustment since NMLS was launched nationwide in 2008. The public comment period ends July 22. Learn more.
- Comment on the CFPB’s Proposed FCRA Rule: The CFPB released its proposed rule on consumer reporting under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, specifically focused on medical debt. ACA members and their provider clients have until Aug. 12, 2024, to file comments. Learn more.
