ACA International is constantly working to bring you the best member benefits possible by actively engaging in initiatives that enhance your professional journey.
Here is some of what we’ve been up to lately:
- Meeting Innovations: The ACA team is currently gearing up for our largest event of the year, the 2024 Annual Convention & Expo July 21-23 in sunny San Diego! This is a fantastic opportunity to connect in-person with colleagues and create lasting relationships with new connections, all while attending innovative keynote and breakout sessions. Learn more and register here if you haven’t already. Plus, save on hotel costs when you book your hotel room by June 26!
- In-Person Meet-Ups of Online Groups: We’re excited to announce two special FREE pre-convention sessions for you: ACA’s Cybersecurity Collective and the State Guide Cohort. These pre-conference sessions, each comprised of two hours of interactive content, provide an unparalleled opportunity to explore cybersecurity and state laws in-depth. When registering, choose one session to attend on Sunday, July 21. Learn more and register here.
- Protecting Against Cyber Threats: ACA’s new Cybersecurity Collective, an exclusive resource of ACA membership, provides a private forum for members to learn about the latest cyber threats and ask questions about cybersecurity. While designed for ACA members, nonmember security experts that work directly with ACA member companies can also participate.Request access to the Cybersecurity Collective here.
- Advocating on Your Behalf: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has released its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on consumer reporting under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, specifically focused on medical debt. ACA is finalizing resources for grassroots advocacy to share with your provider clients on the impacts of the NPRM as well as tools to reach out to your members of Congress and file comments with the CFPB, which will be available on the Advocacy Resource Center. ACA members and their provider clients have until Aug. 12, 2024, to file comments. The NPRM has been published on the Federal Register. Learn more.
- State Government Affairs: We saw a busy legislative session in the states, with nearly all states active and hundreds of bills on ACA’s state advocacy to-do list. The Great Lakes Credit and Collection Association and a coalition of accounts receivable management entities worked throughout the legislative session on the Minnesota Debt Fairness Act. The groups worked with bill sponsors on amendments in the areas of wage garnishment and bank levy exemption as well as medical credit reporting, statute of limitations, renewing judgements and commercial debt, among other issues. During their legislative day in April, members of the California Association of Collectors Inc. were able to meet with bill sponsors and other key legislators to discuss SB 1061, which would prohibit credit reporting of all medical debt including, but not limited to, debt owed to any licensed doctor (or group or practice), hospital debt, surgery centers, dentists, and medical devices. Learn more. Visit ACA’s State and Regional units webpage for more information on state advocacy and upcoming unit events. - Find Your Health Care Collection Community: ACA is taking another step forward to help members connect at a higher level. In addition to our popular Small Agency Jam Session and At the Bar discussion group, we’ve just introduced The Clinic: a new online community for health care collectors. The first conversation of The Clinic will take place on July 11 at 1 p.m. CT, and is free for ACA members! Learn more.
