The recent legislative session in Nebraska presented a few bills that, without amendments, would negatively impact area businesses.
As president of Credit Bureau Service Inc. in Fremont, Neb., which serves area businesses, Roxanne Kracl decided she could do something about legislative activity in her home state.
Kracl is a candidate for Nebraska State Senate in District 15.
In an interview at ACA International’s Washington Insights Fly-In advocacy conference, Kracl said she wants to remove barriers for businesses and that having a businessperson in the legislature would help.
In an industry that represents a variety of businesses, from residential landlords to medical clients, Kracl added she decided to run for the legislature to advocate for those clients.
She has also served on Nebraska’s Collection Agency Licensing Board and has helped legislative candidates at all levels in their campaigns.
“Over the years, I have enjoyed working with candidates and helping their campaigns,” Kracl said. “I have invested several years being involved in the process and believe now is the right time to serve our community and represent District 15.”
Kracl took a break from her own campaign earlier this month to participate in ACA’s Washington Insights Fly-In, where she met with U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and U.S. Rep. Mike Flood from Nebraska.
Kracl has longstanding relationships with Fischer and Flood. Their conversations ranged from discussions of industry issues like credit reporting to personal updates like Kracl’s son’s recent wedding and her decision to sell the local restaurant she owned for more than a decade.
Flood, stepping outside of his congressional office on Capitol Hill, also endorsed Kracl for her state Senate bid.
“Roxie Kracl is a business owner who has always stood up for her community,” Flood said in his endorsement. “Her pro-business agenda to lower taxes, help build economic development opportunities, and invest in Nebraska will make her a state senator you can trust to be your voice.”
In addition to her work at Credit Bureau Service Inc., Kracl maintains her business connections in Fremont through the restaurant, where her youngest son Blake works as a manager, and the careers of the rest of her family.
Her oldest son Colby works for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development in Lincoln, her son Riley runs the family farm and works full-time for the Fremont Fire Department, and her daughter Kaitlynn works for the Department of Health and Human Services.
“As a mom, I taught my children the value of hard work and importance of being involved,” Kracl said. “I am proud of the paths my children have taken and their work ethic and passion for our community.”
The Nebraska primary election is Tuesday, May 14, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Kracl is in the running with four candidates—Dave Wordekemper, Anthony D. Hanson and Scott Thomas of Fremont, and Peter Mayberry of Valley—according to a report in the Fremont Tribune.
